UPS Freight Workers Vote Overwhelmingly to Ratify Contract

The Teamster Union now has thousands of new members after a half century long battle with the company that was formerly Overnite, owned by union Pacific Railroad. Workers at Overnite struggled to become Teamsters. The Teamsters won a card-check agreement with the company that is currently UPS Freight.

"This is a truly historic campaign, we are organizing thousands of members in a core industry and we are doing it through a card-check agreement," said Ken Hall, International Vice President and Director of the Teamsters Package Division. "Soon, more than 12,000 workers at UPS Freight will have a more secure future after years of uncertainty."

"At a time in history when some Unions are losing members the Teamsters are growing," said Secretary-Treasurer Steve Pocztowski. "We have worked hard at Local 705 with a lot of help from our Officers, Staff and Members to make certain that this campaign was a huge success."

With majority status 705 was able to proceed with the Contract ratification vote and on Sunday, April 6, 2008, UPS Freight Chicago city drivers voted overwhelmingly for ratification.
